Fringe Swim Bottoms

Setting:

Once upon a summer vacation, I forgot my swim suit and was stuck wearing old lady swim skirt bottoms.

Characters:

20-something turned 80-something Roxie

Plot:

To spice up my swim skirt bottoms, I decided to add fringe.  I just used fabric scissors to cut an inch or two of the skirt off, and angled the front slightly to match the angle of the legs of the swim bottom (under the skirt).  I finally cut what felt like a million slits all around.  I was sure not to be too precise when I made the cuts; I wanted it to be a bit random and uneven.

Setting: @ Camp

Characters: My Camp Family

Image

Plot: So here at Sonlight we do something called “Inner Camp Mail”. Its a way to send notes and packages to other campers and staff here. I love it because its a great way to encourage those around you. Anyways, it was one of those weeks where I felt like all I was doing was waking up, doing the camp thing, and sleeping. Zero time to myself. I decided in order to NOT go crazy that I had to do something other than “the camp thing” and sleep… however to feel like I wasn’t wasting “me time” I decided to craft some trinkets for a few of the gals on staff.

I’d been having people save their bottle caps for a while, and I had a nice little collection going. I used magazine clippings (most from Sunset, my new favorite magazine), lots of glaze, and glued on some magnetic strip. I really like how they turned out, and will have to make some to keep for my own fridge sometime.

Folded Phone Book

Setting:

First craft of the summer!

Characters:

Garbage can

Plot:

I saw this phone book in the garbage and couldn’t bear to let it go to waste.  Inspired by those Christmas trees and Christmas angels, I folded every page of the phone book to make this hanging decoration.  The yellow pages left a lot of color, and the white pages ended up making a cool design.  If you’d like to see how I folded it, here’s a link: Phone Book Tutorial

Paper Lanterns Re-vamped

Setting:

New apartment for the Spring semester

Characters:

Creepy-crawlies here in my new basement room

Plot:

I am a big fan of reincarnating old into new, so to liven up my very temporary apartment, I decided to re-vamp the paper lanterns I made while living at my last place.  I un-bent a wire coat hanger and looped each end (to make it ‘nail-able’ to the wall).  The lanterns already had ribbon keeping them together, so I tied the ribbons together to make a couple different lanterns chains.  I then hung the chains onto the hanger.  I thought it made a nice decoration for the head of my bed.

Once again, here’s the TUTORIAL for the paper lanterns.

Wind Chime

Setting:  Final week of working after school care 😦

Characters:  Myself, my boss

Plot:  Since I’ll be moving back in my parents this fall while I’m student teaching, it was my final week working after school care.  To say thanks for a great two years I made my boss a wind chime out of steel rings, beads, a stick, and fishing line.  To hide the fishing line knots at the top of the stick I wrapped some yarn around it, and tied ribbon on the ends of the stick to hang it.
