Hair combs

Setting:  Week before Christmas, sitting by tree, getting gifts together

Characters:  Mom bought me some hair combs, I constructed

Plot:  I had a lot of extra time on my hands before Christmas, so I made as many gifts as possible.  This hair comb and embroidery thread idea for a gift was taken from a Pinterest pin.  It was super easy and a nice little addition to my cousins’ gifts.

Christmas Skirt

Setting: Pre-Christmas preparation, 3 (or maybe 4) Christmas’s ago

Characters: Me and Mom sewing together

Plot: Seeing as it’s the Eve of Christmas Eve, I thought it was fitting to post my Christmas skirt.  If I remember correctly, I picked out the fabric first and then decided it would make the perfect holiday skirt.  I needed some help from my mom to figure out how to go about making the pattern that was in my head.  I have since worn it year after year to many a holiday gathering.

Paper Lanterns

Setting: Once creepy attic in GR, during a boring week of summer

Characters: Me, dust, spiders and other creepy-crawlies

Plot: My new apartment has a super cool attic that needed something done with it.  My solution= origami paper laterns and icicle lights.  For about a couple days I folded up these paper laterns using old papers from classes, and magazine pages (recycling!).  Then one evening I strung the lights, and tied the lanterns to them.

I used this TUTORIAL to make the lanterns.  I experimented using a different number of pages to create different lantern shapes (3 pages was my favorite).

Cable-knit Hat

Setting:  Pre-winter chill, exams creeping up

Characters: Myself and procrastination

Plot:  Before this hat, I had attempted only one before.  That first attempt was a disaster.  This attempt, I decided to not only try to master the knitted hat, but also try cable-knitting for the first time.  Fortunately, it turned out to my liking.  I added a ball at the top because it was too pointy without it.

Window Treatment

Setting: Terra

Characters: Talene Amet Hutchison

Plot: Best thing ever? Liquid stitch. How did I discover this? A gal named Talene. A few yards of fabric + some liquid stitch + an iron = instant window treatment.

I watered down a little turquoise acrylic paint and added color to some of the flowers so that it would match my room a little better.
