Curtain Dress

Setting:

Hot, summer, beach day.

Characters:

Just me.

Plot:

My mom and I had just finished making window treatments for my bedroom and there was some leftover material.  The weather was perfect for beach-combing, which inspired me to use the leftovers for a beach-type dress.  I cut off the top of an old tank top (one that was too short and had a stain at the bottom) and sewed the curtain material to the bottom.  Voila!

Crochet T-Shirt Rug

Tags

Setting:

End of summer, beginning of spring. In front of TV watching 30 rock.

Characters:

Myself, Jack Donaghy, Liz Lemon etc.

Plot:

I found myself with a surplus of old T-shirts.  Heather had knit a rug during winter out of T-shirt yarn so I snatched the idea and made t-shirt yarn to crochet a rug.  I tried to make a circular rug, but I ran into the same problem as the last time- the middle kept bumping up.  I gave up on the circle and made a pentagon (much easier).  I did not completely tie off the end because I may want to keep adding on when I get more T-shirts.

** I didn’t have time to make up my own tutorial for how to make “T-shirt yarn” but here’s a good one: T-shirt Yarn

Blouse

Setting:

Winter, christmas time, digging through mom’s closet

Characters:

Mom’s shirt and me

Plot:

I was browsing through my mom’s closet when I came across a blouse that I’m always borrowing.  I decided I would make a blouse of my own using my mom’s as a template.  I made my very first pattern, using the original as a guide, and used fun, sheer fabric to construct the new one. (I will try to locate the original blouse to compare it to the new one)

Framed Pressed Flowers

Setting:

Beginning of summer, in my mom’s garden

Characters:

Mom and me

Plot:

A friend of mine had given me a “carousel-style” picture frame eons ago, and it was still empty.  I was brainstorming what to do with it (because I don’t have pictures that tiny) when my mom gave me this idea.  I used my favorite blooms from the garden, and pressed them for a few weeks- then stuck ‘em in the frames.

GIFT WRAP

Setting:

Crested Butte & my cabin’s front porch.

Characters:

A friend living in Rome. Myself.

Plot:

A good friend of mine is studying abroad and I have been meaning to send him a little something for ages. I finally got around to putting something together and really wanted him to have a taste of my life right now and what I have been doing. I also wanted to cover the ugly mason jar box I was using – so I grabbed a hiking map I had saved from a recent trip to Crested Butte. It made for some great wrapping paper. I taped a few golden aspen leaves that I found on my front porch on to the box and voila! A taste of Colorado ready for USPS.
